November 2000 ----------------------------------- July 2000 Eye on Opening Night --------------------------------------------- Laguna Beach-The biggest name in big eyes meets the biggest name in eyewear. l.a.Eyeworks will sponsor the first exhibition documenting the forty-year career of Margaret Keane. Margaret Keane's pop icon status was confirmed in the 1970's when she was revealed as the ghost painter for her then husband Walter Keane...and as the rightful owner of the large-eyed waif legacy. The exhibition will run at the Laguna Art Museum from July 30th - October 15th, 2000 then November 5th -December 31st 2000. l.a.Eyeworks iconic ad campaign will feature the central image of Margaret Keane's famed 1962 portrait painting entitled "Escape" of a young woman, now digitally accessorized with l.a.Eyeworks eyeglasses. The Keane ad is a first-ever departure from l.a.Eyeworks' 20 year black and white celebrity portrait campaign by famed photographer Greg Gorman. Keane's work has been rediscovered by a new generation, and her work has become increasingly collectible. A recent 8 page New York Times Sunday Magazine story on Keane drew national attention. Among collectors are Tim Burton, Matthew Sweet, and Jerry Lewis (an early fan). Her paintings appear in films including Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, Sleeper, and Wayne's World. In San Francisco, be sure to visit Keane Eyes Gallery at 3036 Larkin. Or if you're feeling flush, commission a portrait by the master. Lucky. Laguna Art Museum Take your bathing suit and shorts...the museum sits on the edge of the most beautiful beach in the world |
